Minimum Clearance

Minimum clearance is the distance between the top of the load and the bottom of the overhead structure.  Minimum clearance acts as a buffer for dips in the roadway and bouncing or shifting loads that make a load taller than initially measured.  Note some states allow the DOT or carrier the discretion to choose the minimum clearance required.
